Evan Nesterak

Evan Nesterak is the editor-in-chief of Behavioral Scientist, an award-winning digital and print magazine focused on exploring the world through the science of human behavior. Evan co-founded Behavioral Scientist as an independent and nonprofit publication in 2017.

He has also served as an editorial consultant and researcher, working with a number of authors on their books—including Dan Heath, Ethan Kross, Jamil Zaki, and Leidy Klotz.

Previously, he helped lead a multiyear project with U.S. Soccer to understand the psychological development of players in their Development Academy. Before that, he researched character development in Angela Duckworth's Lab at the University of Pennsylvania.

Evan also worked: on the Maine Conservation Corps, as a youth soccer coach, at a local organic canning company, as a night security guard at one of the largest stock shows and rodeos in the world, and as a caretaker of a remote property in the Czech Republic.

Her writing has been published in The Believer, Slate, and Hinterland, among others; and won, shortlisted, or nominated for various awards, including Harper's Bazaar Short Story Competition, Fitzcarraldo Editions Essay Prize, and Pushcart Prize.

As an audiophile, she's worked for various radio shows and media outlets, including Radiolab, Freakonomics, WNYC Studios, and First Look Media. She's also an independent reporter for BBC World Service.

Before writing and radio, she pursued her curiosity through two master's in world literatures and evidence-based social intervention and policy evaluation at the University of Oxford. She researched mental health in refugee children.
